Understanding our built environments needs multi-level observations, from the microscopic to the telescopic levels. Urban level infrastructure and spatial structures should be analyzed to understand cities in parallel to micro-scale elements that also inform urbanism.

우리가 사는 도시를 이해하기 위해서는 다양한 레벨에서의 관찰이 필요하다. 때로는 아주 세밀히 작은 스케일을 관찰해야하기도 하며, 또 때로는 넓은 시야로 보아야 할 때가 있는 것이다. 도시 스케일의 인프라나 공간구조가 마이크로 스케일의 요소들과 함께 이야기되었을 때 우리는 도시에 대해 더 명확히 이해할 수 있다.

As decentralized modes of operation in all fields have been implemented during the process of digitalization, new grass-root movements and bottom up approaches have emerged in urbanism and architecture. Master planning at various levels may take a different approach by focusing on the smaller elements. The regional or territorial scales can be better understood through urban points, urban agglomerations can be understood through their districts, districts through their architecture, and architecture through its details. Hence, urban planning and design can evolve progressively from the smaller scales to make sense of the larger.

디지털화를 통해 그 동안 많은 분야에서 탈중앙화된 방식이 확장되면서 새로운 풀뿌리 운동과 바텀업 방식이 건축과 도시에도 적용되기 시작하였다. 다양한 레벨에서의 마스터플랜 역시 작은 요소들을 들여다 봄으로써 새로운 접근이 가능하게 되었으며, 지역적이나 국토 스케일 역시 그 안의 다양한 영역과 블럭, 건축의 유형과 요소 등을 통해 더 잘 이해할 수 있게 되었다. 때문에 도시디자인과 계획 역시 큰 스케일을 구성하는 작은 요소들로부터 만들어질 수도 있는 것이다.
